2021.11.29 05:09 Ouroboros612 Specialist usefulness and starting colonists strategy. I'd like to see if my opinions here have any flaws, and if you could share your thoughts on this as well.

This is my personal assessment of specialists and starting colonist strategies. I'd just like some feedback, discussion and thoughts on it.
Plant Specialist and Animal specialist: Never used. I'd love some personal thoughts and analysis on these from those who have used them.
I'm mainly playing supremacist OR raider, with transhumanist, tunneller and lastly either pain is virtue, collectivist or human primacy.
My opinion is that the shooting specialist is the best specialist in the game. Mainly because it allows you to play quality over quantity of colonists. As in - you need fewer colonist to reach the same fire power. The second reason being that it scales for an infinite time-scale. That is - it is useful early, mid and late. It never loses power.
Production specialist is imo the 2nd best specialist. Because it also allows quality over quantity of colonists, which has a strong synergic effect with shooter specialist. A colony with 8 people could likely defend a raid that would on average require 12 colonists. Production specialist is always good at all points in game time and progress.
Mining Vs Research specialist. I think research specialist has a strong edge here. Because the high tech research requires a high tech research bench. 1 researcher on work drive and + research active skill allows labor elsewhere - and saves materials on having to build a 2nd research bench.
The 2nd thing to consider is that a RESEARCH SPECIALIST will reach DRILL ARMS a lot faster, meaning that in overall game progress efficiency. A research specialist might even be a better contributor to mining than a mining specialist! Because if you can rush drill arms with a research specialist - what's the point of the mining specialist?
Research and mining specialist both, unfortunately, suffer from the same problem. When mining and research is done - they are dead weight. They provide a significant early game advantage in trade for being dead weight late game.
For optimal efficiency - I think a research specialist beats a mining specialist in almost all cases. Since a research specialist can rush drill arms making the mining specialist role obsolete.
The ONLY reason to take mining specialist imo, is if you want to build a mountain base super early in the game - starting the digging progress in the first 1-3 years for a massive mountain base. In this scenario - a mining specialist is good and fulfills its purpose despite being lackluster late game.
As for starting colonists (crashlanded, no mods).
You want at least 2 planters of any skill level, with passion. 1 person starting off decent with mining (5+ skill) and 1-2 passions. One good constructor with passion, preferably a 2nd colonist also with construction of any skill and passion. At least one good doctor, crafter, animals.
The thing to think about when rolling colonists that I don't see people mention, which is so important. You want to roll the stuff which is HARD TO GET first, coupled with the other strong starting stats.
Since medical often comes with incapable of violent, my opinion is that your first colonist should be rolled only looking at the medical skill. When passion there, look at traits, if traits acceptable, look for other needed starting stats. For the second character, you want to look at crafting the same way, then animals. If lucky you can get a character with multiple of all of these - but careful not to put all your eggs in one basket. You don't want to end up with 2 super good starting colonists and one who ends up idling. This is also why you want your colony settling (const, mining, plants) skills spread out. So...
1 with good medicine + EITHER construction, mining, planting. Preferable additional skills to fill gaps.
1 with good crafting + EITHER construction, mining, planting. Preferable additional skills to fill gaps.
Some combos of skills seem harder than others. With the addition of ideology. High social for your moral guide is too good to ignore imo. And getting good social + shooting + the above can be hard. So I recommend getting the pawn with social with medical + other needed skills on the first pawn even if it takes a hundred rerolls. Because this allows for some playing room with your subsequent pawns.
So when the game starts you want one person good at construction, and one who can support with construction when needed. One good at planting, and another who can support with planting. One really good at mining. 1+ doc, 1+crafter, 1 animals, 1+ research.
The idea is that every major early game job like construction, mining and planting will have one dedicated person - and one who can support it when needed. So 2 of each of these jobs SPREAD OUT. You do NOT want a pawn or two that does all three - this is a major loss of early game labor efficiency.
As for food. Nutrient paste, even with -4 mood, is always better imo. Even if there is a mental break here and there, food poisoning is crippling. You will lose more time, and be at greater risk, getting food poisonings. Since paste is also more resource efficient, you need less hunting / crops etc. Which means more time can be spent on labor.
Early game, labor is the most valuable resource. Mid game, components are (at least for me, always).
Quick sleeper, jogger, industrious, hard worker, super-immune, fast walker. I never take a pawn which doesn't have at least 2 of these, no exception. Though I'm super masochistic when it comes to rolling colonists.
Quick sleeper is IMO the best trait in the game, because it is a multiplier to the effective labor power of the pawn.
Ehh... so yeah, sorry for the wall of text. Any thoughts? :P

2021.11.29 05:09 Snoo51222 So how do I transition into the next chapter?

The idea is that this guy has business to attend to, and has a long drive to get there. So the end of the chapter is basically him getting into his car and driving off. How would I go about going from him leaving, to him arriving without it sounding too abrupt. Like, I don't want to just blatantly say that he's arrived, like "Oh, would you look at that! We're here!". It just sounds too sudden, you know?

2021.11.29 05:09 Longjumping_Ad_1334 I don't see the benefit of "implements"

I don't see how "implements" can be useful in real world programming. Can someone give an example?
I don't see the benefit of recreating variables and methods.
// A person. The implicit interface contains greet(). class Person { // In the interface, but visible only in this library. final String _name; // Not in the interface, since this is a constructor. Person(this._name); // In the interface. String greet(String who) => 'Hello, $who. I am $_name.'; } // An implementation of the Person interface. class Impostor implements Person { String get _name {return '';} String greet(String who) => 'Hi $who. Do you know who I am? $_name'; } String greetBob(Person person) => person.greet('Bob'); void main() { print(greetBob(Person('Kathy'))); print(greetBob(Impostor())); }

2021.11.29 05:09 WillonaWoodsBoutique Has Meri ever cussed on the show?

This is just a random question because the Browns used to be so insular and against bad language and the kids picking it up. Now I’ve heard all the parents and most of the kids cussing…except Meri, I think. I was just wondering. If not, that’s surprising. I would’ve thought Robyn or Christine would be the ones who never uttered a foul word (at least in public), lol.
