I saw a post on Instagram with this text and I was curious to see what other people's reaction was. I regret doing it as it was infuriating.
There were two types of comments: the "I keep my friends and my job separated" kind of people, and the "I'm too young to work but this sounds reasonable" kind of teenagers. Why can't we just help our friends find a workplace? Why would it be so bad to work with them? Why do we feel so insecure and try to avoid any possibility of being compared to them? When did we lose our empathy??
A childhood friend of mine knew that I had been struggling with finding a job and paying my bills, and they told me about this job at their workplace and even helped me to persuade their boss (our boss now) to fix a working schedule that could fit my uni schedule. Without them I wouldn't have been able to afford going to uni anymore, so people who are thinking only about themselves and putting problems that should not even exist in the first place in front of their friends' wellbeing angers me the most.
Also, if it's not your friend who gets that position, there is certainly going to be somebody else. And maybe this person would really be more competent, you would be compared to them and eventually your worst fear would come true. Wouldn't it be better to see your friend in that position rather than a stranger?
Well, this is just my opinion so I might be wrong. But this is my mindset, so I'd rather help my friends instead of ignoring their problems. What is your take on this? I'm curious.

2021.10.22 06:03 Kyrtyroth Aquatics Analysis - Anglers
With the exciting announcement of the Aquatic's Species pack, I've been theorizing on the viability of each of the new features announced. Warning - long post and some math included.
Anglers does A LOT of small little things; in the Dev Diary it's effect has 9 lines, not including it's exclusion criteria and the fact it's a locked civic. The first line basically makes it ideal on an Ocean world (we'll come back to this later), usable on Continental & Tropical, and rendered inert on any other planet preference)
The main effect is swapping 2 Farmers, for 1 Angler and 1 Pearl Diver. If we assume both jobs are worker jobs and do not have job upkeep (outside of farming subsidies), your 2 jobs per agriculture district go from producing 12 food to 8 food, 4 trade value and 3 consumer goods before any modifiers.
This is not a bad trade; for every 3 agriculture districts, you are effectively trading the output of 2 farmers for 1 merchant, and 1.5 artisans, with no job upkeep, and worker as opposed to rulespecialist pop upkeep.
While it can be tempting to cry "less food" this is actually a false equivalency. Anglers on Ocean worlds allows you to build uncapped Agriculture districts; this means if you have a size 25 planet, you can build up to 25 agriculture districts.
While you do see extreme situations like Size 11 planets with 9 agriculture districts (my last Continental play through), Anglers is going to allow you conservatively double, if not triple the number of agriculture districts you can build on a given planet.
This is important because flat production modifiers, like Food Processing facilities +1/job, and Farming subsidies +2/job will (presumably) be applied to say, 25 anglers, rather than the 18 farmers we would get before.
While it does cost you extra districts, Anglers gives you a discount on construction both directly and indirectly (consumer good from pearl divers will reduce artisans required, and hence minerals required for upkeep). Since the Trade value of the job covers the district cost, the actual opportunity cost in the long run is the Admin Cap (which let's be mindful, is scheduled for rework).
Large planets are actually what you want to focus your Anglers districts on, since it lets you benefit from percentage based modifiers, such as Lush and Agri-World designation, while minimizing volatile motes refining . This brings us to...
The Angler Aquatic Axis
Since Anglers strongly encourages you to run Ocean Preference (as opposed to just Wet), you may as well add Aquatic, for the bonus food output and habitability bonuses. (Amazon is a Megacorp, river and jungle, but my Thrifty Tropical fish don't have a leg to stand on here)
At this point, you should take Hydrocentric (I imagine this fits nicely into 2nd or 3rd slot to time it with Terrestrial Sculpting), for further food bonuses and the ability to make your planets bigger, which enables Angler.
This gives us our unholy trinity, which gives us 15% bonus food output on Ocean worlds, with the ability to build them as tall (or rather deep) as we want. The Ice Mining Station bonus even gives you more minerals to pay for your more frequent (and still discounted) Agriculture districts.
But this brings us to an interesting point... Food for the most part does nothing beyond being an upkeep resource. In fact, the only 3 things worth running an even somewhat food based economy (beyond selling the excess) are Clone Vats, Nutritional Plenitude and the big organic guns, Catalytic Processing.
Catalytic processing is probably the best use of your massive stockpiles of fresh fish, with Pearl Divers further encouraging the construction of forge worlds. You can probably get away with an Artisan free economy with Consumer benefits, and potentially a Miner free economy until you need refineries or a Forge Ecumenopolis (which should have minimal detriment from Aquatic since housing is abundant, and Habitability won't matter).
The Other trait which has surprising synergy with Anglers, especially if for some reason, you don't want to go Aquatic/Ocean, is Phototropic. 2 Farmers can upkeep 12 pops (10 excluding themselves) at base, while you 2 Angler jobs using Wealth Creation will support 8 pops with their inherent trade value. This is pretty good, and makes Angler Trade Plantoids (budding optional) an interesting angle (pun not intended), but also not mutually exclusive with the above
tall deep strategy.
Pearl Divers & The Merchant Economy
Pearl Divers are an interesting job. The job itself, as a worker job probably doesn't have any input, unlike Artisans which require minerals. This is great, since it's effectively free consumer goods.
Remember how we were discussing all the Food Anglers will give you, and how it's only really worthwhile if you have a mechanic that allows you to turn it into growth or alloys? Consumer goods have a similar issue; generally you only need as many consumer goods as you need, and excess does very little.
While you do want a small surplus for Colony ships, the only real use for a Surplus is the planetary decision to distribute Luxury Goods, which gives you a temporary, and very micro intensive amenities boost for your planet. This is considerably worse than anything excess food can potentially give us, and 2 Trade value is the icing on the cake, not anything to write home about.
Speaking of Colony ships, Pearl Divers have an immediate value from game start - they let you settle planets more comfortably, since Consumer Goods are a potential bottle neck, and they also allow you to upkeep more researchers (1 Pearl Diver pays for 1 Researcher job + both their pop upkeep and change), but you're more likely to bottleneck on food (unless you start with Catalytic).
However, beyond the early game, it's really inefficient to have a pop working a job that creates 3 consumer goods and 2 trade value. Ideally, you want to take Mercantile, and run consumer benefits or Trade Federation at some stage, and turn any excess jobs off, since you don't really want to run Artisans either. After all, you only need to break even, or have a slightly positive net CG income.
Since you may as well take Mercantile, you can run Market place of Ideas early to power through the tech tree with a Merchant Spam build, and the casual trade value from Agriculture districts makes it that much better. Since Pearl divers ease the consumer good pressure your researchers will demand, you can delay taking Diplomacy, allowing you to take something more impactful in your 2nd or 3rd slot, like Supremacy, Prosperity, or Adaptability, which has a nice Food bonus, though the real value is in the building slot.
Final Thoughts and Synergies
Aside from the obvious Aquatic synergies that will come with Angler, and the aforementioned Food/Trade synergies, there are a lot of options, and indeed flexibility Anglers potentially provides.
Starbase spam actually can let you get away with running minimal Agriculture districts, thanks to Hydroponics. While it might seem counter intuitive, your 4 Angler jobs can carry you quite far, with Pearl Divers enabling research spam. I've personally built a Plantoid Trade build where I didn't need a single additional Agriculture until Clone Vats.
Speaking of Plantoids, Phototropic got a mention previously, but it's probably better bang for your buck compared to Agrarian, and how easily you can stack Food bonuses, but the trait is best removed late game. Budding also gets a mention since you can create some very deep worlds in theory.
Intelligent/Natural Sociologists seem very solid for bee lining to Terrestrial Sculpting, as does Thrifty for the casual trade value. An interesting thought; you can probably throw Thrifty on any conquered slaves, and through them into Davey Jones' Locker and get pretty decent value of it, despite the fact Trade value doesn't get any bonuses from traditional slave/worker set ups.
In terms of Origins, Ocean Paradise may actually seem like the logical choice, but it's lack of guaranteed habitable worlds is a major detractor. I think Lost Colony is actually a great choice, since it gives you an indefinite output bonus on your capital (which applies to both your Anglers and Pearl Divers), the habitability is offset by Aquatic. It also creates an ideal species for you to conquer or ally with later in the game, even if they roll Xenophobe. Prosperous Unification sounds good for an aggressive rush oriented build, and Here be Dragons for a tech build.
Necrophage/Syncretic also sound quite strong, with Necrophage pops having reduced food output, and Agrarian Aquatic Serviles starting the game with a ridiculous 35% food bonus. Stay away from anything that changes your home-world like Remnants, the Worm, or turns it into a space water bomb like Doomsday.
Ethics seem flexible. Xenophile and Authoritarian (potentially together) have synergy with the job production itself, but nothing outright punished your, except potentially going Synthetic Ascension (Materialist otherwise seems strong for Pearl Divers enabling Academic Privileged Reasearchers)
Anglers is a highly synergistic and interesting civic with a load of potential. Great job Devs!
